About Me:
Digital learning, you bet! I attended Dana Owens and Wesley Fryer's first cov workshop. What an authentic learning experience for me and now my students. I applaude digital champions like Dana and Wesley for their efforts. Stephen Covey in his book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", says one must continually reinvent themselves. Education plays a vital role in the economy. I highly suggest reading the book, "Tough Choices or Tough Times" written by The National Center on Education and the Economy. Education must reinvent itself to meet the ever changing demands of the global economy. According to "Tough Choices or Tough Times", the standard of living in the United States will erode away if we, as a nation, do not change. Another book I suggest reading is "Technopoly" by Neil Postman. Technology represents what the stirrup did for man. In medieval times, the stirrup revolutionized war; man could now fight on horseback. Teachers, I encourage you to stir up with your stirrup! Look out Encyclomedia, I feel a "break out" session brewing! As Garage Band says, "Soldier on!"

World War II veteran, Cliff Williams, has joined our Ning!

Talk about a life long learner! Mr. Cliff Williams, WWII veteran and participant in our Celebrate Oklahoma Voices project here at Asher Public School, has joined the Ning by creating his own blog page! Wouldn't it be great if more WWII vets would join if, of course, possible. What a testament to what a great project this is. His digital story was created by two of our students and is posted. He gives actual accounts of his experiences while serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. His willingness t… Continue

The "Energizer Bunny"

I uploaded one of the first digital stories completed at Asher Public School as part of our World War II project. Asher Public School invited 4 WWII vets to our school and 1 Korean/Vietnam vet on December 6, 2007. The students personally interviewed these gentlemen using Olympus Digital recorders which were then later turned into digital stories using the techniques that I learned at the first COV workshop. The information these gentlemen shared with the students was and is unparalleled to that… Continue

Digital Learning, You Bet!

Students at Asher Public School are currently working on completing digital stories using the techniques I learned by attending the first Celebrating Oklahoma Voices workshop conducted by Dr. Dana Owens and Wesley Fryer. In order to accomplish this, we invited four WWII vets and one Korean/Vietnam vet to spend the day with our students. Three of the four vets served in the South Pacific and one in Europe. One gentleman from Ada, Oklahoma, Hank Thompson, U.S. Army, 27th Regiment, 25th Infantry ,… Continue

Are they the black headphones like we had or are they white ones with headphones and a mic? If they are white ones, they belong to the college. If they are black ones, I have no idea. They weren't there when I left.

we anchored at enowetoc only a couple of days and arrived
at Okinawa 29th of july. we remained anchored in the bay for
a week for some reason. We were under kamikaze alert quiet
often during that time. Aug. 5th about 60 of us in my outfit went
on shore and set up tents because i remember the next day
aug.6 was when the 1st atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima,
Aug. 13 was when the ship came under attack so I had been off
the ship about a week, these dates i do remember. The dates and
wording in the one chapter is not exactly right. My ww2 experiences
was not much compared to most of the soldiers, sailers and marines,
but i'll share with you what i have.

I must be the first veteran to have a blog on your page. I served
in the Navy approximately 20 mos.during and after ww11. To get
a history of the transport ship i sailed to Okinawa on go to ASK
search engine and type in usslagrange apa124 and take a look at
it.
